What may change in your body
Energy may improve, while other discomforts appear: constipation, heartburn, ligament pain, nasal congestion and skin changes. How much the bump grows varies a lot from person to person.
Care for this week
Keep up suitable physical activity when cleared.
Increase fiber and fluids if you're constipated.
Use sunscreen and watch for pigmentation changes, which can become more noticeable in pregnancy.
Prenatal care focus
- Appointments usually follow a monthly schedule until the 28th week in usual-risk pregnancies, according to your health service's guidance.
If you're expecting twins
In twin pregnancies, appointments and tests are usually more frequent than in singleton pregnancies.
For those by your side
Help turn big plans into small tasks: budget, space, baby essentials and support network.
Questions for this week
Is it normal to still have nausea?
Yes. Although many people feel better in the second trimester, some keep having nausea.
Does the bump have to be big?
No. Bump size varies a lot and can't be used on its own to assess fetal growth.
When to seek care
- Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy should be reported to your care team; how heavy it is, pain and gestational age change how urgent it is.
- Severe, worsening or persistent abdominal pain deserves evaluation.
- Fever, fainting, significant shortness of breath, chest pain or feeling very unwell need medical care.
In an emergency, go to the urgent care service in your area. This content does not replace a professional assessment.
