What may change in your body
The bump is heavier and your center of gravity shifts. Lower back pain, shortness of breath, heartburn, swelling and poor sleep are common. Practice contractions may become more noticeable.
Care for this week
Start reviewing your birth plan and preferences with your care team.
Pack your hospital bag little by little if that brings you peace of mind.
Keep paying attention to the movement pattern.
Prenatal care focus
- The baby's position, growth, blood pressure and maternal symptoms are monitored with increasing attention.
If you're expecting twins
With twins, the team may discuss the likely timing of birth well before 40 weeks, depending on chorionicity and clinical progress.
For those by your side
Organize who can be with her during the birth, look after other children and help in the first weeks postpartum.
Questions for this week
Will a breech baby at 32 weeks stay that way?
Not necessarily. The baby can still change position.
Do I need to have my hospital bag ready now?
It's not required, but starting early avoids a rush if you need to be assessed or admitted.
When to seek care
- Once movements have become familiar, a significant decrease in the pattern you notice should be evaluated without waiting until the next day.
- After 20 weeks, a severe/persistent headache, vision changes, severe pain in the upper abdomen or sudden swelling deserve evaluation for a possible hypertensive condition.
- Before term, regular contractions, increasing pelvic pressure or signs of labor need prompt advice.
In an emergency, go to the urgent care service in your area. This content does not replace a professional assessment.
The next chapter
In week 33, the baby gets 'chubbier', the bones mature and, in many cases, the position for birth starts to settle.
