What may change in your body
Nausea, sleepiness, extra saliva, appetite changes and sensitivity to smells can really disrupt your routine. Your mood may also swing. Don't compare how intense your symptoms are with other people's.
Care for this week
Keep meals small if that helps with nausea.
Look after your oral health even when brushing your teeth makes you nauseous; a soft toothbrush can make it easier.
Don't treat teas, herbal remedies or 'natural' products as automatically safe in pregnancy.
Prenatal care focus
- If you haven't started prenatal care yet, it's worth making booking it a priority.
If you're expecting twins
Stronger symptoms don't confirm twins. The diagnosis is made by ultrasound.
For those by your side
Being understanding about mood changes and fatigue without taking everything personally is already concrete help.
Questions for this week
Does the bump show at 7 weeks?
The uterus is still small; visible changes are usually more related to bloating and individual body shape.
Can I keep exercising?
Many people can stay suitably active, but intensity and restrictions should take into account their history and professional advice.
When to seek care
- Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy should be reported to your care team; how heavy it is, pain and gestational age change how urgent it is.
- Severe, worsening or persistent abdominal pain deserves evaluation.
- Fever, fainting, significant shortness of breath, chest pain or feeling very unwell need medical care.
In an emergency, go to the urgent care service in your area. This content does not replace a professional assessment.
The next chapter
