What may change in your body
Your waist may look fuller even without an obvious bump. Nausea, gas, constipation and larger breasts are still common. Some people notice more saliva or a metallic taste.
Care for this week
Drink in small amounts throughout the day if large glasses make nausea worse.
Light movement, when cleared and well tolerated, can help your energy and bowels.
Talk about oral health; gums can become more sensitive during pregnancy.
Prenatal care focus
- Go over the results of your initial tests with your team, without interpreting isolated values outside the context of pregnancy.
If you're expecting twins
A twin pregnancy shouldn't just get an 'extra paragraph': the schedule of appointments and ultrasounds depends on the type of multiple pregnancy.
For those by your side
Help the pregnant person find time to sleep and eat at times that work around the symptoms.
Questions for this week
Is it normal not to have told anyone yet?
Yes. There's no required week for sharing the pregnancy; it's the family's decision.
Can I travel?
It depends on your health, the destination, the length of the trip and the means of transportation. It's worth checking with your team before longer trips.
When to seek care
- Vaginal bleeding during pregnancy should be reported to your care team; how heavy it is, pain and gestational age change how urgent it is.
- Severe, worsening or persistent abdominal pain deserves evaluation.
- Fever, fainting, significant shortness of breath, chest pain or feeling very unwell need medical care.
In an emergency, go to the urgent care service in your area. This content does not replace a professional assessment.
